Delivering the NEWS is NOT always easy!  You know the word ANGEL means messenger, right?

First, the ANGELIC HOST had their work cut out for themselves.  It was a huge responsibility.  You have to get it right!

Those poor, terrified, frightened shepherds!  I tell you, delivering NEWS is not always easy…(but SOMEONE’s GOT TO DO  IT!)

And then of course, those self same shepherds had to “GO and TELL” MARY and JOSEPH just what they had EXPERIENCED and WHAT HAD been TOLD to them…

Delivering the news is not always easy…

So, I heard this story about a married woman on a business trip abroad…she intended on checking in at home on each major leg of her journey…(over the course of a few weeks.)

So, when she had been in London for awhile she called back home –to the MIDWEST and asked her hubby HOW he was DOING!

And her husband said, “I am fine, but our CAT-LUCY just died.”

So his wife started bawling her eyes out on the phone.  And as she started to regain her sense of composure – she said “How insensitive can you be?”  You have NO regard for my feelings…

The husband said, “OK what was I SUPPOSED to have said?”

Thinking for a moment, she said, “Well you could have told me Lucy got out and was up on the roof.”

When I later get to Paris you could tell me, Lucy fell off the roof.

When I check in at Vienna you could have said, Lucy is not doing so well…

And when I check in – at Warsaw you could have told me Lucy passed away.  That way I would have been MORE prepared.

Then she said to him, “And HOW by the way, is my mother doing?”

To which the husband responded, “She’s ON the roof!”

Delivering News IS NOT always easy…

So here we are on the night of all nights, with great expectation, child wonderment and a message needs to be delivered to some simple shepherds, living in the hill country with their flocks.

There is no time for preparation.  Things are happening and moving at the speed of light.

Un-expecting shepherds find their TRANQUIL night turned into “SHEER TERROR.”  What is THIS they SEE?  What is THIS they HEAR?  Talk about UNSETTLING?  Talk about being disturbed, UPSET, unnerved and UNEASY…

VISIONS in the nighttime sky?  Is this REAL?  Do you SEE it to?  Where’s that MUSIC coming from?  And the brilliance of the light…it is BLINDING…

WHAT is that they are SAYING?  And WHERE are WE TO GO?  And then, before you know, it is gone.  NOTHING.

SO, they go with HASTE…and they find EVERYTHING just as they were TOLD they would…

But what does it ALL MEAN?

A SAVIOR?  CHRIST THE LORD.  A BABY.  Just an infant, a new born!  Swaddling clothes…City of DAVID…Mary and Joseph, c’mon it is a lot to take in, a lot to wrap your head around…

A SAVIOR…a RESCUER…a LIBERATOR…a DELIVERER…an EMANCIPATOR… “a Saver of SOULS”

But it’s just a helpless baby, an infant, a child, HOW CAN THIS BE?

And once you have experienced the baby, what do you do THEN?  Do you tell others or NOT?  And once you have encountered the GROWN MAN, what then?

Do you TELL others or Not?  Delivering the news is NOT always Easy.  BUT SOMEONE has to do it.

Will it be YOU?

Amen.
