“YOU really need to get a life they say!”
But what they do not tell you is that life is SHORT! VERY short!
Just “the other day” was my FIRST DAY here at All Saints.
I could have sworn I JUST graduated from High School.
I FLUNKED my driver’s test the first time and never even got out of the parking lot!
I saw a picture this week that said “COLLEGE YEARS” on the back.
I still wonder how the people are at St. Stephen’s in Chicago and at Holy Trinity in Littleton, Colorado, and at Mount Zion in Wauwatosa. I still PRAY for them all.
“Get a life they say.”
FOUR YEARS of Seminary…after four years of college…
Then there was that doctorate thing…
I read…I pray (A LOT)…I watch the news…dust, SOMETIMES.
I walk the dog. Do the WASH. Water the plants. You know the ROUTINE.
You NEVER KNOW what life will throw at you!
Jesus IS coming…and boy, am I waiting. I really am, waiting on the Lord. He can’t come soon enough!
Life is short, so live every day as IF it were your last, because some day YOU’LL BE RIGHT!
Life is short, so WAKE up, stay ALERT, be prepared, light the lamps, pay the bills, GET ready.
Listen for the knock, answer the call, SERVE where you’re sent. Do what you can to help others…here and now.
Don’t give in. Don’t give up. Fight the good fight. Be ENTHUSIASTIC!
Life is short, so do what you love to do and give it your ALL.
Whether it’s business or teaching or administration or medicine, if you don’t love “what you’re doing” and can’t give it your BEST, think seriously about getting out of it. There is TIME…although it IS fleeting!
Life is short, so recognize that today is the only day you have, eat dessert first, read only good books. SMILE!
Life is short, so go to church and worship, stay awake, and SING…open your mouth…make funny sounds…
Life is short, so tell your TRUTH, take care of this day, TAP your foot to the music. DON’T care what others say!
Life is short, so listen to the people you love, tell them “how much they mean” to you, visit someone ELSE’S mother in the nursing home.
Life is short, so recognize that EVERY day is a special occasion, do something interesting, have some fun, and choose to be happy.
Life is exhilarating! Life is sweet!
Life is short, so forgive. Look past the faults of others just like you HOPE they will do for you.
Life is short, so surround yourself with gracious people, hug your friends, CARE for someone you haven’t cared for…
Life is short, so be courageous, take a chance, live so that “when your life flashes before your eyes,” you’ll have plenty of STUFF to watch.
Treasure life. Treasure others. Treasure God. BE thankful for what you DO HAVE.
Life is short, so embrace the possibilities, try something NEW, see that every day is an opportunity.
Opportunity ABOUNDS.
Life is short, so breathe and think deeply, don’t give your heart to that which won’t FILL your heart, make the changes that will make THE difference.
Life is short, so celebrate God’s eternity, make time for the things that MATTER, don’t leave yourself regretting things you didn’t do.
Pray HARD, believe in Jesus with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength. Celebrate the love of God.
Take communion, taste and see that the Lord is good. Let him fill you up!
Breathe deeply, what you are breathing IN AND OUT is “life” and it is ALL good, and it’s all HOLY! God loves YOU!
It was that great American “POET,” you know the one… Dr. Seuss who wrote:
“How did it get so late so soon. It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?”
You know the thing about life is that it flies…you have to hang on and hold on tight…so you do not get tossed off, willy, nilly…
Wake up and understand that when we look for God, we hear “the ticking of the clock” and understand that EVERY minute is filled WITH possibilities.
Our job is to stay awake to everything that life brings us–so that we don’t miss it when God comes.
And HE IS coming…may he come SOON! Get Ready, get RIGHT with him, TODAY!!!
Amen.
