On April 2, 1872, Victoria Woodhull became the first woman candidate for the U.S. presidency.
There were about 300 bones in your body when you were born, but by the time you reach adulthood you only have 206. Where did the others go?
A dentist invented the electric chair!!!
The largest baby to be born so far weighed in at 15 pounds, 5 ounces!
Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, was actually afraid of the dark.
In one day your heart beats 100,000 times.
Your tongue, eye, and jaw muscles are among the strongest muscles in your entire body.
The reason I share these things with you, is because they are examples of trivia.
Unimportant trivia…
You know, who cares? Silly facts soon to be forgotten. Garbage in…garbage out…no big deal…
Jesus was so far ahead of his time. He gave to us what was to be – one of the soundest pieces of advice…ever.
Why do we worry, why do we fret, why do we allow ourselves to become troubled, anxious and “worked up” over things that are not important?
Oh, the precious time we can waste…We can get ourselves so worked up over nothing!
We do it. We do it to ourselves…we do it – too often.
We become alarmed, agitated, concerned, perturbed, distressed, uneasy and troubled over “potential problems.” Not even actual problems, mind you, but just potential problems…possible problems…problems that might occur or come to fruition.
Isn’t that silly? We are so easily consumed with the distractions of life!
Jesus said, “Dude, seriously, take a chill pill!”
So much of this life is filled with the unimportant, the incidental, the insignificant, the stuff not worth bothering about – and yet we do…
We assign to it great importance…we take what is insubstantial and frivolous and raise it to the level of being “life threatening…”
…what’s more…we assign to it great significance or value…
Is this an emergency?
Is it really truly critical?
Is it dangerous?
Is it grave?
Is it fatal? Is it “that important?”
If not, then why get so worked up over “it?”
But something that IS IMPORTANT we treat lightly…Something monumental…something of mammoth importance…we do not give it the serious attention it deserves…or requires.
We put it on the back burner…we seldom think about it…we treat it as being inconsequential…
In ten verses we have six injunctions NOT TO WORRY! We worry, anyways…
What should be first, foremost, preeminent in our lives – should be the Kingdom of God. Striving, seeking, desiring “it” above all else. Nothing is more important…nothing is more vital…
Prioritize. Know what is and what is not important.
Jesus could not emphasize it enough, he continually taught and spoke about the need to be “people of the kingdom.”
To walk in God’s ways…
To have God be central in our lives…
To have God rule over our hearts…
To have God be most important in our lives…daily being mindful of our “walking with Him.”
Passing on our faith … to our children and our children’s children…so that they too will walk in God’s ways and be people of His Kingdom. So that when life gets nasty, they will have the “presence of God” to strengthen and guide them through the perplexities of this life…and on, into the life that is to come…
Did you know…there is no word that rhymes with orange?
I tell you, we spend precious time on “things” which are not important, at all!
Amen.
